The top 5 aesthetic procedures Singaporeans do during the festive season

THE END-OF-YEAR holidays mark the season of joy and merry making. With the excess money from our annual bonuses, it is during this time that we let loose after a year of hard work, meet friends whom we have not seen for the whole year, travel to exotic destinations, and attend numerous parties. It is, therefore, important to look our best during the year-end holidays.
Aesthetic procedures have recently become common among Singaporeans looking for that extra radiant skin or beautiful facial features. Non-invasive procedures which are safe, fast, and effective are the norm these days. In this article, we bring to you the top five aesthetic procedures that Singaporeans do during the holidays.

Perhaps the simplest and most popular procedure that we love is the HydraFacial. HydraFacials are safe, painless and relaxing. It cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates the skin with anti-oxidants, essential amino acids and hyaluronic acid, leaving the skin supple and radiant. There is no downtime and the effects are immediate. It is a refreshing procedure for the working population who finds it a hassle to upkeep a daily self-skincare regime. It can be done at regular intervals convenient for anyone. It can also be done before we go out to meet our friends for a party for that radiant glow, or after a long night of partying to help us get through that unwanted hangover look. HydraFacials are also affordable and make a great Christmas present for our loved ones.

Laser Skin RejuvenationWith the advancement of technology, laser treatment is no longer what we imagined it to be. In the past, laser procedures can be painful and uncomfortable, with many days of downtime, leaving the skin red and raw from the procedure, rendering us unable to leave the house or meet anyone immediately after. The new generation of lasers, especially the rejuvenation lasers, provide us with the positive effects of laser treatment without the downtime mentioned above.
Revlite laser skin rejuvenation helps to brighten the skin and even out dull skin tone, leaving the skin with a radiant glow. It also helps with mild wrinkles, acne and pigmentation. In fact, many individuals without major skin problems are starting to seek regular rejuvenation laser treatment to maintain their skin since young, delaying the skin ageing process of pigmentation and wrinkling. It is popular as a pre-event or pre-dinner procedure for anyone who wants to look perfect for an enjoyable evening out with family and friends. This 30-minute procedure is usually painless and does not require the use of topical anaesthetic creams. However, moisturising and sun protection are essential immediately after performing any laser treatment.

Lifting and Tightening
For individuals seeking help for wrinkles and sagging skin, the non-invasive Ultherapy skin lifting and tightening procedure seems to be a popular choice amongst ladies in their 40s and 50s. This natural, non-surgical procedure helps to delay the need for an invasive facelift surgery. It is useful in lifting the skin on the neck, chin and around the eyes, making one look years younger than one’s age. It can also be used for saggy skin in the abdomen, thighs and buttocks. The effects of these procedures are, however, not permanent due to the on-going natural ageing process, although one single treatment session can produce results that can last for a year or two, depending on the individual. These procedures can be slightly painful and uncomfortable, but usually manageable by the use of topical anaesthetic creams.

Botox and Fillers
The terms Botox and Fillers are synonymous to the practice of aesthetic medicine. They are well known, widely used and popular amongst the Western population for many years to improve the lines, angles and curves of their faces. However, until recent years, Singaporeans have been unsure and uncertain about the use of these treatments to enhance their looks. This may be due to fear of needles and pain perceived to be associated with these procedures. With the advancement of new injection techniques, use of smaller needles and malleable cannulas, many Singaporeans have found these treatments safe and effective with minimal pain.
Botox are commonly used to treat crow’s feet and forehead lines, making one look younger and refreshed. It can also be used to shape facial features, such as in the treatment of a square jaw or making a sharper jawline. Fillers, on the other hand, as the name suggests, help ‘fill’ any perceivable ‘defects’ in the face. Popular uses of fillers include lip and nose augmentation, and filling of nasolabial folds, Marionette lines, and tear troughs. The treatment is not permanent and lasts about six months, and this seems to sit well with most patients, as the perception of beauty changes with seasons and times.

Body Sculpting and Contouring
Last but not least is the non-invasive targeted fat loss procedure, such as Cool Sculpting or Liposonix Custom Contouring. Have you ever tried fitting into that pair of jeans that you just bought a month back and realised it is slightly tight now? Or have you ever looked into the mirror while wearing your favourite dress and see unsightly bulges in the abdomen and underarms? Or are you shy to wear your favourite bikini to your beach holiday? Well, then this procedure is for you. Non-invasive fat loss procedures use cold or ultrasound technology to help us get rid of unwanted stubborn fats such as loose underarms, muffin tops, love handles or belly pooch. Coupled with the right diet and exercise, these procedures can work wonders for one’s waistline. These one-hour procedures are safe and effective, but may not be suitable as a weight loss procedure for overweight and obese patients, although they can serve as a motivation for one to embark on a weight loss program.

These procedures help us look good for the holiday season, and when one looks good, one feels good. These cycles of ‘look good, feel good’ will definitely make the holiday season a more enjoyable one, before the usual mundane work life kicks in again.
